一个故事，相册里放了三张名画，Lady of Shallot，是Waterhouse的手笔。英国诗人Tennyson有同名长诗，这后面是一个凄美的爱情故事。一个受诅咒的美丽女子，只能生活在阴影中。不可以直视任何屋外的物件或人物，她的生活就是住在一个孤岛的房子里，用一面铜镜看外面的世界，然后把它们织出来。一天她在铜镜里看见英俊的骑士Lancelot,一见倾心，她一声长叹，I am half sick of shadows.她感到了她命运的诅咒，命运之轮开始扭转。她决心抛弃一切去追求爱情，愤而剪断束缚她的丝线，带着她织了一生的锦绣，乘一艘小船，点燃三支生命蜡烛，滑向她的爱人。当蜡烛燃尽，她的生命也将终结。烛炬成灰，她合上了双眼。始终不能亲见爱人。她就死在离爱人咫尺之遥的城堡外，Lancelot走出来，看见她苍白美丽的容颜，只能说“She has a lovely face；God in his mercy lend her grace, the lady of Shallot.”
