我查的字典make of 是用...制造的意思.怎么看都觉得有点别扭.而且making是动名词用法,把of去掉的话,直接用making the clock,不是更方便么?
原句是 for the making of 所以我认为是做动名词中的名词用法,而如果改成我所想的 for making 那应该应该是做动名词中动词的用法了.二楼的朋友说做动名词更不妥了,

依我看来,这里的making动名词是比较通顺的没什么不妥如果LZ改的话建议改成：he was responsible for the clock making.如果改成：he was responsible for making the clock.responsible 后面不会连接 ing 的现在进行时形式的如果做动名词就更不妥了.参考一下.PS:我的问题通常都是快100分的悬赏,LZ真的有点节约.

你说的很有道理，确实是He was responsible for making the clock.更好。
但他的用法在语法上讲也没什么错误，只是不常用而已。

感觉还是原文好。虽然你的改法在结构上没有错，可是意思有些不同。
